I met Ms. Rajeshwari Marikannu in 2004, when she arrived at Muenster to start a doctoral work in the Department of Biochemistry at the University of Muenster. She had won a prestigious fellowship of the International Graduate School in Chemistry.
I have been an informal adviser to her through her doctoral studies and a little after, spanning roughly the period from October 2004 to mid 2007, at the request of the then director of the International Graduate School for Chemistry in Muenster, Prof. Dr. H. Eckert. There were two reasons behind this request. She hailed from my part of the country in India and hailed from a fairly small district of this state. The concern how she would adapt to the living and working conditions were a concern for the director, especially because he found her academic records excellent and impeccable and wanted to help her integrate into this system.
I found Rajeshwari Marikannu to be a highly motivated and a tough personality, who wanted to get ahead in her work without any let up. Naturally, there were teething problems in acclimatising in various ways to work and life in Germany, but with a single-minded determination she weathered it all and completed her doctoral thesis in a distinguished manner.
From my association with her during the above period, as well as later on during her career as a leading educator in Mumbai, India I have evolved a picture of her with the following attributes, which I write below.
She is polite and pleasant in her behavior, resolute and firm in her commitments and has clear visions of what and how she wants to handle an assignment.
